Heart & Soul: A Love Story (Kenny Vance, 2023, 91 min) is a powerful documentary exploring the roots of Doo-Wop and the young Black and Latino artists of the 1950s and ’60s who reshaped music and youth culture. Through rare footage and personal interviews, the film celebrates the rhythms, dances, lyrics, and harmonies that made teen-driven music a cultural force.

About the Speakers:
Kenny Vance co-founded his first music group, the iconic Jay & the Americans, as a teenager in Brooklyn, N.Y., followed by years of global mega hits. His career includes discovering and producing artists such as the duo later known as Steely Dan; music director of Saturday Night Live; music supervisor for films including  Animal House and The Warriors, the first Rock & Roll film soundtrack; and acting roles in films including several by Woody Allen.

As founder of the popular Kenny Vance & the Planotones, Vance was elected to the Vocal Group Hall of Fame as well as, individually, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.  Heart & Soul; A Love Story, establishes him as the oldest American male debut director of a commercial feature documentary film.
